The Hunt of the Unicorn is a project by sound and visual artist IO in which she composed 35 pieces of music in the Dark Ambient/Dark Industial style divided into seven albums, referring to the series of seven tapestries known as "The Hunt of the Unicorn" or the "Unicorn Tapestries". This series of tapestries is among the most beautiful and spectacular surviving works of art from the late Middle Ages, its meaning and origin being one of the most enigmatic, laden with pagan and gothic symbolism.

Dark Ambient/Dark Industrial drones and other cinematic sound elements were used in creating the ethereal musical landscapes by IO in this collection that should appeal to listeners of avant-garde goth music.

The background pattern used to ornament each tapestry on the album covers was taken from a piece of fabric dating from 1450 - 1500 that is on display at the Art Institute of Chicago, USA.
